Child custody and child support actions exist largely in the context of divorce, although these issues can arise between unmarried parents, as well. While child support obligations are subject to statutory minimums and must be in accordance with the New York Child Support Standards Act, child custody is determined on a case-by-case basis, based on the best interests of the children.
Ms. Solomon has also completed an International Parental Kidnapping Course, designed to educate attorneys about the incidence of kidnapping by parents of their children to and from the United States. The course centered around the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction (IPCA), the mechanism used to determine where a custody dispute should be decided.
